Kari E. Johnstone, DVM
Relief Supervisory Public Health Veterinarian
Dr. Kari Johnstone grew up in a small farming community in southeast Kansas . There she worked along with her siblings helping out around the farm. Working on the farm was everyday in addition to school. Summers it was the hay field and gardening, while the rest was filled with cattle work and any other chores.
While attending Pittsburg State University in Pittsburg, Kansas, she double majored in flute performance and biology. She transferred to Oklahoma Christian College and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in music before returning to Pittsburg State to complete her biology degree. The biology degree was a stepping stone to studying Medical Technology at Lester Cox Medical Center in Springfield , Missouri where she graduated with a bachelor in medical technology.
Dr. Johnstone worked for 3 years as a medical technologist at Baptist Medical Center in microbiology and moonlighted at Arkansas Children’s Hospital in virology and microbiology. Wanting to do more with her education, the next logical step was to become a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine. She attended Louisiana State University school of Veterinary Medicine while working weekends at Our Lady of the Lake in microbiology and hematology. Dr. Johnstone practiced at Rose Animal Clinic in Bentonville , Arkansas before entering into work with USDA. She continues to practice and provides house call services in addition to consultations via the website.
As a multifaceted individual, Dr. Johnstone is a professional flutist, marathoner, triathlete, and a member of the Half Fanatics organization. She utilizes her personal knowledge as an athlete, veterinarian, medical technologist and the creativity of a musician to provide high quality service to her clients. She loves her profession and it shows in her care for pets and pet parents.
